Championship Open Water Meet Sanctioned and Entries Underway

The inaugural Las Vegas Open Water Champions Cup, scheduled for October 8 – 10, 2021, is officially sanctioned and open for entries as of August 16 at 12:00pm PST.  The entry deadline is September 29, 2021, 11:59 PM.  The meet will be conducted at Lake Las Vegas, 20 Costa Di Lago, Henderson, NV 89011.

The meet information packet can be found at:  [click here for link]

The hosts are recommending that attendees stay at one of the two hotels located in Lake Las Vegas. Rates without resort fees have been negotiated with the hotels. Lake Las Vegas is also located 30 minutes from the Strip and the hotels do offer ride services if you are interested in visiting the Strip during your stay in Fabulous Las Vegas.

This meet is in addition to the Western Zone Open Water Championship which is scheduled for September 18, 2021, at the same site.

USAS Annual Business Meeting Open for Registration

USA Swimming will conduct the annual Business Meeting (formerly the USA Aquatic Sports Convention) on Saturday, September 25.  The meeting is open to all members and other interested parties.  The registration link is now posted if anyone is interested joining the PNS voting delegates:  [click here for link]

Registration is required and will close Monday, September 20.

The agenda for Sept. 25 will consist of two meetings.  The first will be the continuation of the June 30 Special Meeting on Governance changes.  The objective is to approve a new proposal to structure the USAS HOD to comply with the new federal and US OPC requirements.  This is the so-called replacement of R-9 which was the one measure not approved on June 30.

That meeting will be adjourned, and a break is planned. Then the annual meeting will begin.  This is the meeting where the proposed by-law changes and other motions will be considered and voted upon.  The election for the 2021 open positions on the USAS Board of Directors will also be conducted.  The proposed changes in the legislation packet are described on the USAS website: [click here for link]

MAAPP 2.0 Deadline Approaching

The September 1 MAAPP 2.0 implementation deadline for all LSC’s and USAS clubs is approaching.  This update clarifies some of the questions that arose following the original implementation of MAAPP.  Definitions of terms such as Adult Participant have been added and new exceptions to address questions such as athletes reaching the age of majority have been created.  There is still one opportunity to attend the last hour-long webinar on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. PDT.

There are extensive training materials, webinars and slides as well as templates for the various forms available on the USAS site as well:  [click here for link]

             Office Manager Transition Status

The effort to select a new PNS Office Manager to replace Colleen as she retires is proceeding as scheduled.  The job postings have been closed and interviewee candidates have been selected.  Interviews are being completed.  The Search Committee will present a recommendation regarding an offer and transition plan to the Board Executive Committee on Monday, August 23.

2023 Western Zone Age Group Championship Host

The Western Zone will conduct its annual business meeting close to the USAS Annual Business Meeting (Sept. 25).  The agenda will include consideration of proposals to host the 2023 Western Zone Age Group Championship meet in early August, 2023.  If any club is interested in hosting this meet, please contact Program Operations (ProgramOps@PNS.org) to learn what is involved in offering that meet.  There is also information on the process on the Western Zone website:  [click here for link]

2021 Western Zone Age Group Championship Business Meeting

The 2021 Western Zone Age Group Championship meet concluded with the Zone Age Group Business meeting on Aug. 9, 2021.  The meeting included a proposal to re-arrange the relays and distance events between the Preliminary and Finals sessions.  The proposal was tabled at that time and will be considered at a continuation of the Zone Business meeting on Aug. 23.  The delay was necessary to allow all LSC’s to establish their voting delegates and to provide an analysis of the impact of the proposal on the length of sessions.
